Though it did not gain popularity until 2000, the term ’spyware’ was first introduced in 1995. Computer programs or scripts are ways in which this method of ’spying’ is accomplished, as it allows another party access to a user’s personal information.
Through studying keystrokes, hard drive material, and web browsing history, this spying is accomplished. Although James Bond would be proud of the methods, these types of home infiltration via spyware happen every day in the real world. Calling people affected by these attacks victims is accurate, as no one wishes to have their online activities monitored. Though the theoretical argument can be made that spyware helps the government in tracking criminal activity, there is no societal benefit to be found in the other purposes of the program, such has tracking credit card data. It is simply irresponsible for anyone to be negligent in their use of a great anti-spyware program.
Programs that are similar to spyware, such as malware and adware, should also be blocked for full protection against vicious computer infiltration. This should not be hard, as there are many online adware and spyware blocker programs. By preventing future downloading of these infiltrating programs and disabling current ones, these blocker programs prove essential. Frequently, the ‘harmless’ spying can result in slowing down the entire computer system so that running the system or any of its programs takes forever. Along with the trouble they cause, occasionally spyware is sneaky enough to hide from detection, which allows the crime to continue unpunished. Fighting the problem before it starts, by installing a good blocker, is the way to go.
